This book started years ago when my daughter Opal was a toddler and became completely obsessed with veterinarians. She must have been the most excited client at the vet's office, every time! She hung on our doctor's every word, and just couldn't wait to grow up to be a veterinarian herself.

Year after year, Opal maintained that her greatest aspiration was to become a veterinarian, and when she was about four years old we started this project together. I wrote the poems, and she illustrated them. She has always been a fabulous artist, conveying such emotion and intensity through her unique portrayals of animals.

It wasn't long before Opal and I saw a book coming together, and with great joy we ran with it! I can't express how proud I am of her and her delightful work, and how honored I am to co-publish with her for my second children's book.
