About the Artist

Meredith is an artist and children's book author based in New York City. Her work is multi-faceted but most often spotlights nature and animals or involves abstract creations with repurposed items, such as the scrap-quilting tradition of her ancestors from southern Appalachia. Along similar lines, she has developed a unique medium of Repurposeful Art that really showcases her patience and individuality as an artist.

Meredith's art career found its roots in her first children's book, The Polar Bear Songbook. Based on a folk song sung in her family for generations, her original verses and vibrant watercolor illustrations give a meaningful family tradition new life. Her second book, The Thermometer Goes... Where?!, is a quirky collection of pet-centered poems hilariously illustrated by Opal Wren. Meredith has found children's songbooks to be a very rewarding way for her to combine her love of singing with her passions for writing poetry and illustrating animals.

Pet portraits provide Meredith with a further opportunity to capture the beauty and personality of animals, and to connect with their human family members. Consider supporting Meredith's art by commissioning a portrait!
